Regional Hospital named after. Mechnikov is the leading clinic in Dnepropetrovsk. Within its walls people have been treated since 1798.Today there are 40 specialized departments with a total capacity of 1175 people. On the basis of the hospital extensive scientific work is carried out, advanced methods of treatment are introduced.

Statistics

Mechnikov Railway Hospital is the largest medical institution in Dnepropetrovsk and the region. Over the past year, 257,000 people received qualified counseling, more than 36,000 stayed at the hospital, 15,000 operations were performed here, 80% of which were complex.

Department of Allergology

Mechnikov Hospital can be proud of the department of allergology, designed for 30 beds. It is headed by a doctor of the highest category, Ph. D.Margitich Sergey Vasilyevich. The department employs doctors of the highest category, who constantly improve their qualifications in leading clinics and institutes for the improvement of doctors in the cities of Kiev, Donetsk, Lviv. The department works together with the Department of Hospital Therapy No. 1 and the occupational pathology of the Dnepropetrovsk Medical Academy.

Diagnostics and treatment of diseases of various severity and complications of allergic patients with the following diagnoses are carried out here: bronchial asthma, pollinosis, chronic, allergic rhinitis year-round, chronic recurrent urticaria, dermatitis, drug, food, insect allergy, quincke angioedema, anaphylactic shock andothers.

Over 13 years of work, the department doctors jointly with the staff of the department published 48 articles in print publications of Ukraine and Europe, 18 thematic speeches were performed on television, 37 modern techniques for diagnosing and treating allergic diseases were introduced. Doctors of the department are participants of medical forums.

Cardiology Department

Mechnikov Hospital( Dnepropetrovsk) is equipped with the necessary equipment, which makes it possible to conduct complex operations. Methods:

• for endovascular diagnosis of ischemic heart disease and treatment;
• stenting: simple stents and stents with a coating.

The system of rendering assistance to patients with multifocal atherosclerosis was developed and introduced. Here, lesions of the coronary arteries in the brain, lower limb vessels and abdominal aorta along with the departments of vascular neurosurgery and vascular surgery are treated.

Diagnosis of arterial hypertension is carried out in the possible directions:

Department of Endocrinology

It is created for rendering highly specialized inpatient care for patients with endocrine pathologies( primarily pathologies of the thyroid gland) and diabetes mellitus. There are four doctors working in the department:department Ekaterina Yurievna Malyar( regional endocrinologist) and doctors: Chukmasova NA, Malashenko S.L.and Anisimova AS

Mechnikov Hospital initiated the creation of a school of self-control. The primary goal of the school's functioning is to teach patients the basics of self-control, diet and insulin injection techniques.

Currently in the hospital there are:

• Therapeutic and surgical endocrine departments.
• Consultants-endocrinologists on the basis of the regional consultative polyclinic and paid clinic.
• Cabinet "diabetic foot" on the basis of the polyclinic department.
• Cabinet of fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid neoplasms.
• Radiological department( hormonal studies and diagnostic and treatment of radiation iodine).

In addition to the main methods of treatment of endocrine diseases on the basis of the department, the method of monitoring glucose( CGM) is conducted and insulin pump is installed.

Mechnikov Hospital: pulmonology department

The department's work is carried out jointly with the Department of Therapy and Occupational Pathology of Dnepropetrovsk Medical Academy( headed by Prof. Kuriat Alexander Viktorovich).Diagnostics, treatment of nonspecific diseases of the bronchopulmonary system are carried out here.

Doctors use all X-ray diagnostic methods, magnetic resonance tomography, diagnostic and therapeutic fibrobronchoscopy, bronchography, ultrasound examination of the pleural cavity, ECHO-cardiograph. Also:

• Patients with an unidentified etiology of pleurisy perform thoracoscopy and pleural biopsy.
• For the diagnosis of the body scintigraphy, angiopulmonography is performed.
• In pulmonary pathology, nebulizer therapy for obstructive syndrome is widely used.
• Patients with pulmonary failure undergo non-invasive ventilation using an oxygen concentrator. The blood is monitored by an oxygen pulse-oximeter.
• Treatment of bronchial asthma is conducted according to the recommendations of GINA.Treatment of COPD - according to the recommendations of GOLD.

Endocrine Surgery Department

Mechnikov Hospital is equipped with modern surgical equipment. In the department for 30 beds diagnosis and treatment of the pathology of endocrine glands is carried out according to Ukrainian and world standards, all protocols and standards are being implemented according to the recommendations of WHO and the European and American associations. Annually more than 500 operations are performed in the pathology of the thyroid gland. The surgeons of the department mastered the technique of upper sternotomy with the retinal tumors of the thyroid gland. The percentage of complications is only 0.74% - a record for Europe.

Since 2009, the techniques of surgery of adrenal tumors have been mastered and are being conducted. In recent years, 24 adrenalectomies have been carried out, 20 of them - according to laparoscopic techniques, including cancerous and hormone-bearing tumors of the adrenal glands.

The number of patients treated with minimally invasive methods is increasing every year( which allowed to avoid open surgical intervention in 90% of cases).Only in the Dnepropetrovsk clinic in Ukraine is implemented and successfully conducted a program of combined treatment for advanced thyroid cancer.

The specialists of the department annually take part in reports at international conferences and congresses. The department has 22 publications, including in international journals, 2 patents of Ukraine for inventions.
