Needle injection: types and purposes
For medical purposes, needles can be used, which come in different sizes and lengths. They are used for injections or infusions. To date, there are many variations, and everything in order for painful medical procedures to be more comfortable for the patient. Now there are needles for syringe-pens, butterfly needles and other varieties, differing in length and diameter.
General description of injectors
Almost everyone knows the direct purpose of a medical syringe. It participates as an auxiliary subject for the introduction of drugs, as well as sampling for laboratory analysis of fluids. The syringe itself is a mini pump that can both draw liquid and then squirt and suck liquid components out of the body.
Conditionally the syringe consists of three parts:
- an empty cylindrical body;
- piston part;
- directly needle.
The size of the device, such as a syringe, can be different. The value of such products depends on the possible set( volume) of liquid in the hollow cylinder. You can buy a syringe of different volumes in the pharmacy. These medical devices are made of polyvinyl chloride and packaged in sterile conditions one at a time in a package. It is allowed to use injectors only once.
Varieties and description of injectors
The injection needle is made of metal in the image of a thin tube, the end of which is cut obliquely, thereby making the product as sharp as possible. The other end of the needle is sealed in a plastic cap, which is put on the spout of a medical syringe. The length and size of the needle disposable injection can be different, it all depends on the type of injection:
- intradermal( 16 mm);
- subcutaneous( 25 mm);
- intravenous( 40 mm);
- intramuscular( 60 mm).
All varieties have a straight shape and smooth, without a jagged tip with an oblique cut. The cutoff angle for intravenous injection is 45 degrees, and for subcutaneous injection - 15 degrees.
All injection-type needles are coated with a silicone compound, which allows you to minimize pain during procedures. As a result, when pricking it passes without difficulty, and the skin tissue moves apart, and not cuts.
The diameter of the needles for syringes and infusions is also different. The diameter depends on the speed of release or intake of liquids:
- subcutaneous injections provide a diameter of not more than 0.5 mm and a length of not more than 16 mm;
- intramuscular injections provide needles from 0.6 to 0.8 mm in diameter and from 3 to 40 mm in length;
- for infusion purposes( droppers), the diameter is from 0.8 to 1.1 mm, in length - 40 mm.
In cosmetology, an injection needle of the smallest diameter is used for procedures such as mesotherapy.
If the product is foreign, it is marked with a letter to determine the diameter G, and the size is indicated in inches. Each type of injection should be matched to the type of product withdrawn. If, for example, an injection of an intramuscular nature is performed with an inappropriate needle, the drug will remain in the subcutaneous layers and will not give the desired effect.
Insulin needles for syringe pens
Insulin is administered subcutaneously, and this procedure can not be compared with other types of injection. To insulin injection was as painless as possible, the contour of the needles is trihedral. The syringe cylinder itself is produced in an elongated and narrow shape for convenience of storage, carrying and use.
This kind of syringe provides for a 5 mm microfine needle. This injection needle is made of high quality medical steel. The microfine rod can only be used once. Such needles are suitable for all types of syringes.
Applied infusion needles
Intravenous infusion of drug solutions, which is made by infusion, is performed with a butterfly needle. Like all the previous ones, the "butterfly" can only be used once. Such a needle only participates in intravenous infusions and punctures. The injection needle of an ordinary type is less convenient for carrying out such specific procedures in medicine.
Butterfly needles made of high-quality steel are produced, they are different in size in order to find application for veins of different diameter. To attach and fix the device of the butterfly, there are special "wings" available. They are needed to prevent the movement of the needle in the vein during the procedure and not to injure the vein, especially with frequent infusions.
Stomatological needles
For anesthesia of a local type in dentistry, guard 1 ml syringes are used. Needles for them are plastic, as well as high-quality steel. The length of injectors varies from 10 to 41 mm. The nozzle of the needle on the syringe is made by a method of winding. These rods are quite flexible and very durable. Carpus rods provide the most painless procedure for the injection, since they have a cut at the tip at a very acute angle.
